Monitor Status: DOWN

Your monitor has detected that your service is not responding.

Service Unavailable

Your monitored service is currently DOWN and not responding to requests.

This status indicates that our monitoring agent has been unable to reach your service or verify its health. You should have received notifications through your configured alert channels.

What does "DOWN" mean?

A "DOWN" status means that Layeredy Uptime has confirmed your service is not functioning as expected. This determination is made after multiple monitoring servers have failed to reach your service.

When a monitor goes DOWN, all configured notifications are immediately triggered to alert you and your team of the issue.

Common causes of DOWN status

Your monitor may show DOWN status due to:

  • Server offline: Your server or hosting infrastructure has stopped running or is unreachable
  • Network issues: Connectivity problems or DNS failures preventing connection
  • Firewall blocking: Your firewall is blocking our monitoring agent IPs
  • Timeout exceeded: Your service is taking too long to respond
  • Error responses: Receiving 5xx server errors or 4xx client errors
  • SSL/TLS errors: Certificate validation failures or SSL handshake problems
  • Application crashes: Your application has crashed or stopped responding
  • Resource exhaustion: Server running out of memory, CPU, or other critical resources

Troubleshooting steps

To diagnose and resolve DOWN status:

  • Verify the issue: Try accessing your service directly from a browser or using curl/wget
  • Check server status: Verify that your server is online and running
  • Review logs: Examine application and server logs for errors or warnings
  • Verify network: Confirm DNS resolution is working and ports are accessible
  • Whitelist IPs: Make sure our monitoring agent IPs aren't blocked
  • Test SSL: If using HTTPS, verify your SSL certificate is valid and not expired

Automatic recovery

Once you've resolved the issue, your monitor will automatically detect the recovery. Our monitoring agent continuously checks your service even when it's DOWN, and you'll receive a recovery notification when your service returns to operational status.

You don't need to take any action in Layeredy - the status will update automatically once your service is responding correctly again.
